Sources and Methodology
This sources and methodology page explains where our numbers come from and how we turn them into project reports, loan guides and calculators. We publish it so you can check our work and trust the figures you use.
Official Sources We Use
| Source | What we use it for |
|---|---|
| KVIC and the PMEGP portal | PMEGP eligibility, project cost limits, subsidy rates and model projects |
| MUDRA (PMMY) | Mudra loan categories, limits and scheme rules |
| NABARD | Model bank schemes for dairy, poultry, fisheries and agri units |
| Ministry of MSME | Udyam registration, MSME definitions and schemes |
| CGTMSE | Credit guarantee limits and coverage |
| Stand-Up India | Loan range and eligibility for SC/ST and women founders |
| Reserve Bank of India | Lending rules, repo rate and priority sector norms |
In addition, we use published interest rates from public sector and private banks, and market price checks for machinery, raw materials and rent.
How We Build a Project Report
- Define the unitWe fix a realistic starting size, such as a 10-cow dairy or a 1-tonne flour mill.
- Cost the projectWe list land, building, machinery and working capital, using official model costs and current prices.
- Project incomeWe estimate sales, expenses and profit for five years using conservative assumptions.
- Check bank ratiosWe calculate break-even point, DSCR and repayment schedule the way banks do.
- Map the loanWe match the project to schemes such as PMEGP, Mudra or NABARD refinance.
How Our Calculators Work
Our calculators use the same formulas banks use. For example, the Mudra loan EMI calculator applies the standard reducing-balance EMI formula. Consequently, results match bank figures closely, although small differences can come from rounding, processing fees or insurance.
How We Keep Content Current
Scheme limits, subsidy rates and interest rates change. Therefore, we review loan guides when a scheme changes and recheck our most-read reports on a regular cycle. If you spot an outdated figure, please contact us.
Limits of Our Data
Costs and profits vary by state, city, scale and season. Our figures are therefore indicative. Always replace them with local quotations and ask your bank or a chartered accountant to review your final report. Read our editorial policy and disclaimer for more.
